Interview Question
"Describe a time when you had to gain buy-in for a proposal or project from a stakeholder who was initially resistant or had a completely different perspective. What specific tactics did you use to bridge the gap, and what was the final result? 🤝📣"
Purpose of the Question
This question is a goldmine for assessing Emotional Intelligence (EQ) and Diplomacy. It helps you identify:
Empathy and Listening: Does the candidate seek to understand the why behind the resistance, or do they just try to argue their point harder?
Negotiation Skills: It reveals their ability to find "win-win" scenarios and common ground between departments (e.g., Marketing vs. Engineering).
Strategic Communication: It shows if they can tailor their message to their audience—using data for the analytical stakeholder and storytelling for the visionary one.
Candidates who answer this well are usually the "glue" in an organization—the ones who can move complex projects across the finish line without causing friction.
